EssilorLuxottica second-quarter sales rise 7.2 percent as AI glasses nearly double

EssilorLuxottica, the world's largest eyeglass maker, reported that sales of AI-enabled glasses nearly doubled in the second quarter, helping the company accelerate revenue growth to 7.2% year-over-year. The performance signals that AI-integrated wearables are moving beyond novelty and generating sustainable profits across global markets.

AI glasses drive quarterly growth

Second-quarter sales rose to €7.7 billion ($8.8 billion) in the three months to June. The company did not disclose a specific revenue figure for AI glasses. "AI glasses confirmed their exponential growth, almost doubling in sales in the second quarter versus last year," the company said.

Chief Executive Francesco Milleri said sales of AI glasses expanded across regions and consumer segments. He added that the category was already producing sustainable profits, not just top-line growth.

Younger buyers and price-sensitive segments

Earlier this year, the company broadened its AI eyewear line with a new collection developed by Ray-Ban in partnership with Meta. The move targets a younger, more price-conscious audience. "We look to expand our market, targeting new consumers that have more sensitivity to price and maybe are younger and more interested in having something technology integrated," Milleri said during a conference call.

Beyond frames, the company's lens division continues to innovate. Sales of lenses that slow the progression of short-sightedness in children jumped 24%. EssilorLuxottica has also entered hearing correction with Nuance Audio, which embeds hearing aids into eyeglass frames. A second-generation version with better performance is expected to launch in mid-September.

Financial snapshot

First-half sales reached €14.8 billion, a 5.7% increase. Net profit climbed 12.9% to €1.6 billion, driven by the strong second quarter and higher-margin product categories.

Why this matters for sales professionals

AI-enhanced products are no longer speculative-they are generating measurable revenue growth and attracting new customer segments. Sales teams can take a direct lesson from EssilorLuxottica's approach: targeting younger demographics with technology-integrated upgrades, communicating value beyond the core function, and leaning into price sensitivity where it opens new markets.
