Ex-CMO Jukka Blomberg rebuilds crypto marketing compliance around AI with free rule-cited checks

Six weeks after MiCA's full enforcement, marketing compliance-not licensing-is the quiet risk for crypto firms, with penalties up to €5 million or 3% of turnover. NorthPoint's AI tool cuts the first-pass review to under a minute, freeing teams from review-queue bottlenecks.

Ex-CMO Jukka Blomberg rebuilds crypto marketing compliance around AI with free rule-cited checks

Six weeks after the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) entered full enforcement, most crypto firms are focused on licence applications. Jukka Blomberg, former chief marketing officer of two international crypto exchanges, argues the quieter regulatory exposure sits in marketing itself - and that AI has changed the economics of managing it.

His Helsinki-based firm NorthPoint applies AI to first-pass marketing-compliance review, screening copy, landing pages, ads and social posts against specific rulebooks with every flag citing the actual rule. The firm publishes a free suite of no-login checks covering MiCA, FCA, SEC, MAS, VARA and GDPR. Its flagship MiCA marketing check reads pasted copy against requirements such as Article 88's obligation that marketing be fair, clear and not misleading, and returns a rule-cited verdict in about a minute.

Why marketing is the quiet exposure

The stakes rose sharply when MiCA's transitional period ended on 1 July 2026. European authorities can now direct unauthorised firms to stop marketing to EU customers. Penalties for non-compliance reach €5 million or 3% of annual turnover. For marketing teams, that means every campaign carries a review queue that slows shipping - and the review itself is mostly pattern-matching against rules "that don't change week to week," Blomberg said.

"Compliance costs have become a tax on crypto marketing," he said. "Every campaign waits on a review queue, and the review is mostly pattern-matching against rulebooks that don't change week to week. That routine layer is exactly what AI does well."

AI moves the first-pass review layer

Blomberg said that in his time running marketing for two international exchanges, the bulk of first-pass compliance review can be automated at a fraction of its traditional cost. Once AI handles the routine layer, human judgement goes only where it's actually needed.

"The point isn't to spend less on compliance," he said. "It's to stop compliance from being the reason good teams ship slowly."

The broader argument applies beyond crypto regulation. Marketing teams in any regulated industry face the same pattern: repeated moderation of routine copy against stable rulebooks, at hourly rates that price in full legal review. For marketing leaders, applying AI for Marketing to that layer frees budget and attention for growth work. AI Learning Path for CMOs covers similar territory for marketing leadership teams.

More than cost-cutting

Blomberg's team at NorthPoint positions the approach as replacing a bottleneck with operating discipline, treating compliance as something users check before a campaign ships rather than a gate kept by a queue. Firms that ship first get a competitive edge - provided the automated checks stay accurate.

Blomberg spent 15 years in international marketing leadership across Europe, including the crypto exchange roles, building and scaling 30-plus person teams and acquiring millions of users. Why this matters for marketing professionals

Marketing compliance is increasingly a shipping bottleneck in regulated sectors - not just crypto. AI reviewed every rule-cited check gives marketers a pattern to copy: use machine speed for the first pass of routine review, keep human judgement only for edge cases, and keep the rulebook inspector visible to the team - so you don't stall on queue wait time every time a campaign ships.
