Featured launches GEO Audit to show brands which publications AI search engines cite

Featured has launched GEO Audit, a tool that shows brands which AI search prompts they appear in, which competitors show up instead, and which publications ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini actually cite in their answers. The Scottsdale, Arizona-based company said the tool is designed to turn those findings into a ranked list of PR targets and draft pitches for each one.

The audit runs by typing "Run an AI search result audit on [company website]" into Featured.com. It typically analyzes five prompts relevant to a brand's industry and returns results in seconds, displayed in a chat interface with a side panel of cards and links.

What the audit reports

GEO Audit covers several areas: which prompts mention the brand, which prompts it's missing from, which competitors appear instead, and which specific articles the major AI engines cite. It also flags content gaps - cases where an AI engine cites a brand's own website as a source but doesn't mention the brand in the answer.

The tool ranks the most frequently cited publications for relevant prompts as potential PR outreach targets. Users can draft a pitch for a ranked publication directly from the audit report, with context from the AI search results already assembled.

Featured's analysis of 22,881 AI citations found that 34.5% came from sites with a Domain Authority under 40. That's the core argument for the tool: traditional SEO metrics don't necessarily reflect which sources are shaping AI answers.

"Domain Authority tells you about traditional SEO authority. It doesn't tell you which sources AI search engines actually cite," said Brett Farmiloe, CEO of Featured. "Featured's GEO Audit shows a brand the exact sources shaping AI answers in its category and turns them into a ranked pitch list, so a PR team can spend its week getting quoted in the five sources that matter instead of guessing."

The data comes from the Featured AI Citation Report, June-August 2026, which analyzed 405 GEO audits conducted during the product's preview period between June 2 and August 21, 2026.

Pricing and availability

Featured operates on a freemium, usage-based model. Free users can run one GEO Audit per day. Paid users get additional audits based on their plan: Lite starts at $29 per month and Pro at $79 per month when billed annually. Paid users can also set up recurring audits to run daily, weekly, or monthly, with reports delivered through email or Slack.

Because Featured owns HARO and Connectively, the publications identified by GEO Audit can be pursued through journalist requests and bylined article opportunities on the platform. The tool is aimed at marketing, PR, communications, and SEO teams. For those looking to build these skills, AI for PR & Communications courses cover how to apply generative AI tools in this field.

Why this matters for PR and communications professionals

PR teams have long relied on Domain Authority and similar metrics to decide which outlets to pitch. GEO Audit suggests those metrics may be less useful than they once were, since AI engines often cite smaller publications that traditional SEO tools would rank lower. The practical takeaway: pitching decisions can now be based on which outlets actually influence AI answers in your category, rather than on assumptions about authority. For media relations specialists, this shifts the job from broad outreach to targeted pitches at a specific, data-backed list of sources. AI Learning Path for Media Relations Specialists offers training on using AI tools for this type of workflow.
