Fiber Fast Homes uses AI to complete fiber network data migration after vendor access dispute

Fiber Fast Homes used AI tools to migrate its network data after its former vendor provided incomplete exports, finishing in a fraction of the usual time. The fix cut out outside consultants entirely.

Fiber Fast Homes Uses AI to Break Free From Vendor Lock-In During Platform Migration

Fiber Fast Homes, a fiber network operator owned by Boston Omaha Corporation, successfully migrated its network data from a legacy platform to a modern system by using AI tools to overcome incomplete data exports from its former vendor.

The company faced a common problem in broadband operations: when switching software platforms, smaller providers struggle to retrieve their own network information. Vendors often restrict data access or provide incomplete exports, forcing operators to either pay for expensive consulting services or accept lengthy delays.

Instead of hiring outside consultants, Fiber Fast Homes built an internal solution. The company used AI tools to analyze fragmented network data, reconstruct missing information, normalize inconsistencies, and validate complex relationships between equipment and connectivity across its fiber infrastructure.

"Access to your own data shouldn't be a negotiation," said Randy Cosby, CEO of Fiber Fast Homes. "Yet smaller operators across the broadband industry routinely face friction when trying to move platforms."

The migration completed in a fraction of the time typically required for such projects. Data accuracy and operational continuity remained intact throughout the process.

How This Matters for Operations Teams

Fiber Fast Homes' approach reflects a shift in how smaller broadband operators can compete with larger peers. Historically, switching costs-the time and money required to migrate systems-created de facto vendor lock-in. Scale determined which operators could afford to change platforms.

AI tools are changing that equation. By automating data analysis and reconstruction work, operations teams can now handle migrations that previously required external expertise and extended timelines.

Cosby emphasized the role of human judgment in the process. "This wasn't about replacing engineers with AI," he said. "It was about giving skilled people AI agents and automation to interpret imperfect data, reconcile gaps, and automate work that historically required armies of consultants."

Fiber Fast Homes plans to expand this approach across network design, construction, and operations workflows.
