Fireflies.ai is expanding beyond meeting notetaking with a new dictation feature called Fireflies Talk, available now on its Mac and Windows apps. The move puts the company in direct competition with dedicated voice dictation tools like Wispr Flow, Willow, and Superwhisper, and signals a broader push toward becoming an all-day AI assistant rather than a meetings-only tool.
The feature works across any app. Users press the Fn key on Mac or Ctrl + Win on Windows to start speaking, and Fireflies transcribes their voice directly into whatever text field is active. Filter words are removed and formatting is handled automatically, matching the approach other dictation apps have popularized.
Bundled into existing plans
Fireflies is including Talk in its current subscription tiers at no extra cost. That pricing decision contrasts with the fragmented approach elsewhere in the market. Wispr, for instance, released its meeting notetaker for free to existing dictation app users, while Speechify has introduced dictation across multiple apps. Fireflies said it does not retain any recordings and stores dictation transcripts locally on the user's device.
CEO Krish Ramineni framed the launch as part of a larger product direction. "People speak roughly 3x faster than they type, and voice is a much more natural way to get work done. Meetings were just the starting point; the bigger vision has always been Fred as your AI teammate throughout the day. Talk takes Fireflies beyond meetings into email, Slack, docs, prompts, and wherever else you work," Ramineni said.
From meeting notes to workflow automation
The dictation tool builds on Fireflies' existing trajectory. Last year, the company introduced "mini-apps" for extracting insights from meeting transcripts in different ways. Last month, it launched a feature that manages inboxes and drafts emails on a user's behalf. The company said it plans to build an assistant that uses meeting context to automate workflows across a user's day.
