Fiserv and OpenAI partner to embed AI into banking operations

Fiserv has partnered with OpenAI to integrate AI capabilities deeper into banking and financial services operations. The collaboration will focus on four areas: AI agents for operational workflows, core system modernization, banking-specific AI tools, and cybersecurity improvements.

Fiserv is building AI agents on its agentOS platform to automate high-volume operational tasks that banks currently handle manually. The partnership will also explore how AI can accelerate complex projects like core system migrations and digital upgrades-work that traditionally consumes significant time and resources.

What operations teams will see

The companies are developing AI capabilities tailored to Fiserv's infrastructure and the financial services ecosystem. This includes strengthening fraud detection and cybersecurity tools for community banks and credit unions.

Dhivya Suryadevara, Co-President of Fiserv, said: "Financial institutions are dealing with operational challenges that have outpaced what conventional software can solve. This collaboration with OpenAI lets us bring frontier AI directly into our platforms and products-so our clients see real, tangible differences in their day-to-day operations."

Ashley Kramer, VP of Enterprise at OpenAI, added: "We believe AI's biggest impact will come from how deeply it's embedded into the systems financial institutions already trust. That's why we're working with Fiserv to bring frontier AI to the work that matters most-helping financial institutions modernize faster, operate more intelligently, and deliver better experiences for their customers."

Timeline

Joint teams from both companies are already working on the initiative. New AI-driven capabilities are expected to reach financial institution clients through 2026 and beyond.
