Flexible EU-Accredited AI Degrees Empower African Professionals for Global Tech Careers

OPIT offers flexible, EU-accredited online AI degrees for African professionals. Students can study remotely while advancing careers in AI, data science, and cybersecurity.

OPIT Provides Flexible, Accredited AI Degrees for African Professionals

The Open Institute of Technology (OPIT), an online university based in Malta, is expanding its reach to African professionals. It offers flexible, EU-accredited online degree programs in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, and Digital Business. These programs are designed to meet the growing global demand for AI skills while supporting Africa’s digital growth.

Meeting the Demand for AI Talent

According to the 2025 LinkedIn Future of Work Report, AI-related job postings increased by 38% from 2020 to 2024. OPIT recognises this surge and the skills gap it presents, offering Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees that combine theory with practical applications. The university’s mission is to equip professionals with the necessary tech skills to thrive in evolving industries.

OPIT’s founder, Riccardo Ocleppo, highlights the institution’s global faculty and diverse student body. “With 45 international professors and students from 78 countries, we support Africa’s fast-growing tech ecosystems by delivering education that addresses real-world demands,” he said.

Supporting Africa’s Digital Future

OPIT’s initiative aligns with the African Union’s Continental AI Strategy, which prioritises investment in AI skills, infrastructure, and education. This strategy focuses on preparing member states for an AI-driven future by enhancing broadband, data centres, and talent development.

The university’s flexible online model appeals to working professionals. Nairobi-based IT expert Watson Ndethi, currently enrolled in OPIT’s MSc in Responsible Artificial Intelligence, praises the program’s flexibility. “The blended learning approach, combining optional live sessions with asynchronous materials, allows me to balance work and study effectively,” he shared.

Growing Presence Across Africa

OPIT’s student base includes individuals from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Egypt, Rwanda, and South Africa, reflecting the continent’s demand for quality tech education. In March 2025, OPIT celebrated its inaugural graduation, with 40 students from six continents completing the MSc in Applied Data Science and AI.

Ocleppo notes that remote study enables professionals to continue working in their home countries while advancing their education. “We look forward to welcoming more students from Africa’s innovation hubs in 2025, offering a valuable option for career growth without relocating,” he added.

Student-Centred Learning Experience

OPIT offers 24/7 access to tutors, live masterclasses, interactive exercises, and high-quality digital content. All courses are EU-accredited and designed to ensure graduates are ready for industry challenges. This approach supports sectors like agriculture, education, climate resilience, and healthcare, which are key areas for AI application in Africa.

For education professionals looking to expand AI knowledge or guide others in AI-related careers, OPIT’s programs represent a practical opportunity to engage with trusted, accredited courses. More details on offerings are available at www.opit.com.
