Florida State University's Learning Systems Institute is sending three of its leaders to major European conferences this semester, putting its work on AI in education in front of international audiences. The presentations in Paris and the Netherlands cover practical tools for teachers, AI-supported graphic novels, and co-designing classroom activities with AI - work that has already reached educators across Florida and Jordan.
UNESCO presentation tackles lesson customization
Rabieh Razzouk, director of LSI, will present at UNESCO's Digital Learning Week 2026 in Paris, held Sept. 8-11 under the theme "Education in the age of AI: Facts, Frictions, Frontiers." His session will demonstrate an AI-assisted instructional support system built to help teachers adapt standards-aligned resources to better fit their students' needs. The system, called CPALMS, is already in use to support Florida educators.
Razzouk's appearance follows LSI's growing footprint in global education conversations. Last year, the institute partnered with the World Bank and UNESCO to host a knowledge exchange in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, drawing more than 340 policymakers and practitioners from 41 countries. There, Razzouk examined the roles and risks of AI in teacher preparation and development.
"At LSI, we made a commitment to artificial intelligence as a core capability that strengthens every aspect of work," Razzouk said. "The vision is already becoming reality as our team has been building and delivering high-quality professional learning that equips educators to effectively and responsibly integrate artificial intelligence into teaching and learning."
Dutch conference to share visual learning and prompt engineering techniques
In October, Carrie Meyers and Jim Reynolds will present at the inaugural "Teaching and Learning with AI in Europe" conference in Breda, Netherlands. Meyers directs education and workforce talent at FSU's InSPIRE program, and Reynolds leads STEM outreach for LSI. Both have been developing an AI education pathway through InSPIRE and have delivered sessions on the topic to audiences throughout Florida.
Meyers will show how faculty and instructional designers can use AI to create comics, graphic novels, and e-readers that introduce students to complex concepts without reducing rigor. Her presentation draws on examples built by educators in the InSPIRE program. Reynolds will explore how educators can use prompt engineering to design thought-revealing classroom activities grounded in research on model-eliciting activities.
"It is exciting to share the AI in education work we are leading for FSU InSPIRE and to show the pathways we are creating for educators and students," Meyers said. "Just as important is an opportunity to learn from others and find where our challenges intersect, exchange successful approaches, and identify innovative ideas from around the world."
