GE HealthCare Introduces CleaRecon DL: AI-Powered 3D Reconstruction for Interventional Imaging
GE HealthCare has launched CleaRecon DL, an AI-driven technology designed to enhance cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images within interventional suites. This deep-learning solution aims to reduce artifacts and improve image clarity, helping clinicians achieve better clinical and operational results.
Improving CBCT Image Quality with AI
CBCT is an essential imaging technique used during interventional procedures to provide detailed cross-sectional views. However, its effectiveness can be limited by artifacts caused by the pulsatile blood flow and contrast variations, which reduce image clarity. CleaRecon DL addresses these challenges by removing streak artifacts, thus enhancing image quality during liver, prostate, neuro, and endovascular aortic repair procedures.
With recent clearance from the U.S. FDA 510(k) and CE marking, CleaRecon DL is available on the Allia™ platform, enabling wider clinical use.
Clinical Benefits and Confidence in Image Interpretation
During clinical validation, CleaRecon DL demonstrated significant improvements: 98% of reconstructed CBCT images were clearer compared to conventional methods, and 94% of cases showed increased confidence in image interpretation. These improvements help clinicians perform interventions more precisely, reducing the need for image manipulation and minimizing diagnostic uncertainty.
Dr. Charles Nutting, an interventional radiologist, highlighted that this technology supports high-quality imaging across diverse clinical scenarios and improves intervention accuracy by eliminating artifacts that traditionally hinder CBCT clarity.
How Deep Learning Enhances Interventional Imaging
Deep learning is a machine learning technique trained on large, representative datasets and clinical expert input. CleaRecon DL leverages this technology to generate clearer, artifact-free images that support better clinical decision-making. This AI-driven advancement aligns with efforts to integrate intelligent imaging tools that streamline workflow and enhance patient care.
Availability and Upcoming Demonstrations
CleaRecon DL is currently available in the United States and the European Union. It will be showcased at the Global Embolization Symposium & Technologies (GEST) 2025 Annual Meeting, scheduled for May 15-18, 2025, in New York.
