Hitachi partners with Anthropic on infrastructure AI systems

Hitachi Ltd. has begun working with Anthropic to develop AI systems for critical infrastructure, including electricity transmission and railways. The collaboration will use Anthropic's AI models to strengthen Hitachi's digital services and defenses against cyberattacks.

Hitachi plans to train roughly 100,000 of its 290,000 employees to work with Anthropic's Claude models. The goal is to build internal expertise across the conglomerate's operations.

One notable exclusion: Claude Mythos, Anthropic's latest model with enhanced vulnerability detection capabilities, is not part of the deal. Hitachi will work with earlier versions of the technology.

The partnership follows Anthropic's April announcement of a similar collaboration with NEC Corp., signaling broader momentum in Japan's enterprise AI adoption. For IT teams, the arrangement highlights how major infrastructure operators are embedding AI into system monitoring and security workflows.
