New AI Certificate Program Targets Students Ages 12 to 17
HOAG and BITS BioCyTiH Foundation have launched an online certificate program in applied artificial intelligence for teenagers. The three-month course begins August 1 and aims to teach students how to build AI systems rather than simply use them.
The program addresses a gap in structured AI education for younger learners. Most teen-focused AI instruction stays at the theoretical level. This course introduces systems thinking and real-world applications, focusing on machine learning skills and model-building techniques.
What Students Will Learn
The curriculum covers foundational AI concepts, including generative AI and LLM and intelligent automation. Students complete a capstone project that functions as an incubator for their own ideas.
Participants gain exposure to design thinking and entrepreneurship alongside technical skills. The program also emphasizes ethical considerations in AI development.
Who Should Enroll
The course targets students aged 12 to 17 with no prior AI experience required. It's structured as an online program, making it accessible regardless of location.
Educators looking to integrate AI for education into their institutions may find this model useful for understanding how to position students as creators rather than consumers of technology.
