Instanda Launches AI Underwriting Platform to Manage Complex Insurance Workflows
Instanda has launched INSTANDA Clear, an AI-supported underwriting and operations platform designed to consolidate the manual work that still dominates insurance operations. The platform addresses a gap between fully automated policy administration and the judgment-led decisions that require human oversight.
Most insurance technology focuses on automating distribution and servicing. INSTANDA Clear targets the work that cannot be automated: referrals, placement decisions, fraud checks, mid-term adjustments, complaints, and reinsurance coordination. These tasks typically scatter across emails, spreadsheets, and disconnected systems.
Consolidating Fragmented Workflows
The platform brings underwriting and operational tasks into a single environment where teams can create and manage workflows around their own processes. Users can add tasks, checks, and follow-ups as cases evolve. Automated notifications and email communications embed within workflows to reduce manual administration.
An AI email inbox automatically converts inbound messages into tasks and routes them to the appropriate workflow. This reduces reliance on manual task creation and email chains across teams.
Maintaining Human Control
INSTANDA Clear uses embedded AI to reduce administrative burden while keeping underwriters and operations teams in charge of decisions. The platform tracks task ownership, service level agreements, decisions, escalations, and audit trails in one place.
Once work completes, outcomes write back into policy administration systems, claims platforms, or CRM tools. This creates a full execution history showing what happened, who was involved, when decisions occurred, and what outcome resulted.
Cross-Ecosystem Coordination
The platform supports coordination across brokers, underwriters, operations teams, specialists, coverholders, and third parties. This reduces friction in cases that require input from multiple parties in the insurance ecosystem.
Tim Hardcastle, CEO and co-founder of Instanda, said the platform represents "a natural evolution" beyond product creation and policy administration. "Teams can shape workflows around how they actually work, adapt them dynamically as cases evolve, and bring their wider ecosystem into governed, auditable execution where humans remain at the centre."
The launch follows Instanda's introduction of AI capabilities in late 2025 and mid-2026, extending the company's no-code platform approach to underwriting and operations. Instanda works with major insurers across the US, UK, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
