Intuit is rolling out new AI-powered features across QuickBooks Online Advanced and Intuit Enterprise Suite, giving finance teams conversational access to business data, automated bookkeeping, and deeper industry-specific workflows. The updates, announced August 12, 2026, are designed to help mid-market businesses and the accounting firms that serve them close books faster and make decisions with audit trails intact.
At the center of the expansion is Intuit Intelligence Chat, a conversational tool that lets CFOs and controllers ask questions in plain language about performance across their businesses. The system surfaces anomalies, runs reports, and initiates workflows without leaving the platform. It recommends next steps but only executes once the user confirms an action, preserving control and auditability.
AI-native accounting and multi-entity close
In Intuit Enterprise Suite, new multi-entity accounting capabilities (in beta) extend AI into the intercompany close process. Recurring templates handle repeatable entries, while an AI model trained on a customer's historical data drafts the rest for review and approval. The close runs in the background rather than as a month-end sprint.
"Finance teams need AI they can stand behind when asked how a number was reached," said Ashley Still, EVP and GM of Small Business and Mid-Market at Intuit. "Our latest innovations give finance leaders the industry-specific depth and instant insights they've been asking for."
R "Ray" Wang, principal analyst at Constellation Research, said the shift is about platform architecture more than features. "Clients expect their new ERP offerings to have rebuilt the core financial process - close, reconciliation, forecasting - around AI as the default way work gets done. That's not a vendor talking about AI; that's a vendor restructuring their platform around it," he said.
QuickBooks Online Advanced becomes an all-in-one platform
QuickBooks Online Advanced now bundles bill pay, payments, business intelligence, and AI-driven bookkeeping into one subscription. A new service called Books Upkeep runs continuously throughout the month, keeping books current and shortening the close. Intuit AI resolves high-confidence transactions automatically under rules the customer sets and surfaces only exceptions that need human review, with every automated action labeled.
Bill Pay Elite is included at no extra subscription cost, adding a full accounts payable hub with unlimited free ACH and 1099 e-filing. A new built-in business intelligence suite provides automated cash, revenue, and margin tracking. Finance teams can query variances and run scenarios using plain language.
In a customer survey, 83 percent of QuickBooks Online Advanced users said the platform gives them the data they need to make better decisions. Logan Wright, general manager at Select Door & Hardware, said the automation saves roughly 16 hours per month.
Industry depth in construction, manufacturing, and nonprofit
Construction is Intuit's deepest industry investment to date. QuickBooks Online Advanced now tracks project profitability in real time and generates AI estimates that catch potential budget overruns. In Intuit Enterprise Suite, project list enhancements support hundreds of active jobs, with dimensional filters on reports for granular self-service insights and per-project user permissions that limit a project manager's data visibility to their own jobs.
"One of the biggest roadblocks for a CFO in construction is visibility," said Scott Franchini, partner at RedHammer. "Instead of pulling data into Excel and building pivots and formulas, I can ask IES about the project and get insight into how it is performing."
For manufacturing, beta-level features in Intuit Enterprise Suite add units of measure and multilevel bills of materials, letting companies buy, stock, and sell items in different units and build products from nested assemblies. That removes manual conversion math that often introduces errors into cost of goods sold.
Nonprofit users will get balance sheet reporting by dimensional constraints (beta), giving visibility into assets, liabilities, and net assets across programs, grants, and funds. Don Needs, CFO at Jitasa Group, said the new tools should reduce manual tasks around tracking restricted funds. "In turn, that will allow our nonprofits to focus on their programs and their mission."
Multi-currency and migration
Intuit Enterprise Suite also introduces multi-currency operations (beta) that use a single permissioned exchange rate table. The system records all changes, applies rates automatically, and calculates realized and unrealized gains and losses in compliance with ASC 830 and IAS 21. A lossless migration tool from QuickBooks Desktop now carries over items such as inventory costing, units of measure, prepayments, and years of report templates. An agentic readiness check validates the source data before go-live. Customer Jason Corby, founder and CFO at HFMM Legacy Group, said the consolidated reporting feature alone saves him 10 to 15 hours per week.
Why this matters for finance professionals
For finance leaders at mid-market companies and the accounting firms that serve them, the core takeaway is that AI is moving from a general richer tool to a structured layer baked into core financial workflows-close, reconciliation, forecasting, job costing. The new systems allow finance teams at small and large companies to access instant analytics by asking questions in natural language, manage multiple job entities with granular permissions, and automate month-end processes without losing the ability to investigate a reported number. That means the finance team's job shifts from manual data assembly to exception management and strategic review.
