Ixigo rebuilds travel app around conversational AI and background automation
Ixigo, an India-based online travel agency, launched a rebuilt mobile app Wednesday that uses AI to handle trip planning and automate routine travel tasks. The updated version centers on TARA, the company's redesigned AI assistant, which accepts voice, text, and tap input in English, Hindi, and Hinglish.
TARA handles natural language requests for hotel searches and itinerary planning. It also surfaces recommendations based on a user's booking history and travel preferences.
New features consolidate trip information
The app introduces "Trip Mode," which combines boarding passes, gate and terminal information, baggage details, and travel alerts into a single screen. The feature can suggest airport departure times based on live traffic and recommend activities during trips.
AI agents automate background tasks
"Agentic Travel Flows" use AI agents to automate travel-related tasks in the background. These include sending boarding passes through WhatsApp, updating passes in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet when flights change, and monitoring schedules for delays or cancellations.
The system can also contact hotels before check-in to confirm room availability. Most agentic features require user permission and opt-in.
Part of broader AI expansion
Ixigo said it views the future of travel as "agent-led, with AI that can understand intent, take proactive actions and assist travelers seamlessly before, during and after their trips."
The app launch builds on earlier moves. Last month, Ixigo rolled out ChatGPT apps across its platforms, including AbhiBus and ConfirmTkt. The company is also working with OpenAI on autonomous agents and AI-assisted workflows.
