Jacobs lands second Hut 8 data center contract in Texas

Jacobs has been awarded a sole-source engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract to build Hut 8's second AI data center campus. The project, called Beacon Point, will be located in Nueces County, Texas and designed to support one gigawatt of total capacity across multiple phases.

This follows Jacobs' earlier work on Hut 8's River Bend campus in Louisiana. The repeat selection signals confidence in Jacobs' ability to execute large-scale AI infrastructure projects on schedule.

Digital twin technology accelerates commissioning

Jacobs plans to apply design elements proven at River Bend and deploy its newly released data center digital twin. The simulation tool allows teams to test critical assets before physical deployment, reducing commissioning time and accelerating revenue generation from AI workloads.

Initial energization and commissioning are targeted for 2027. Hut 8's utility interconnection agreement covers the full one-gigawatt capacity, creating a pathway for campus expansion as demand scales.

Repeatable execution for complex infrastructure

Hut 8 CEO Asher Genoot said the company selected Jacobs again because "repeatable, risk-mitigated execution at this scale requires Tier 1 counterparties who meet our standard for technical rigor and execution certainty."

Jacobs' infrastructure work spans multiple sectors. The firm recently won Engineering News-Record's Project of the Year award for designing and engineering Intel's Fab 52 semiconductor fabrication plant. Jacobs also delivers high-performance computing environments for clients including Nvidia, Start Campus, and PsiQuantum.

What this means for construction professionals

The Beacon Point project exemplifies how large EPCM contracts now incorporate digital simulation and phased delivery models. For project managers overseeing complex infrastructure, understanding tools like digital twins and their role in risk reduction has become standard practice. AI Learning Path for Project Managers covers workflow automation and risk management for projects at this scale.
