Jetstream2 NAIRR AI Fellows Program Now Accepting Applications

Applications are open for the nine-month Jetstream2 NAIRR AI Fellows Program, scheduled from January to September 2026. The final deadline to apply is October 10, 2025, with October 1, 2025, recommended as the best date to submit applications.

What the Program Offers

This program provides established and early-career researchers with the expertise and resources needed to conduct AI-focused projects using Jetstream2. It offers scalable computing power and on-demand access to high-performance infrastructure, allowing participants to run complex simulations, data analyses, and machine learning tasks without the constraints of local systems.

Participants benefit from project consultation, specialized training, and priority access to high-end GPUs. The program supports researchers at various career stages, enabling them to maximize the capabilities of Jetstream2’s advanced resources.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

  • Open to U.S.-based researchers and educators.
  • Graduate students may apply with a collaboration letter from their advisor.
  • Selection is based on the technical feasibility of the proposed project and its compatibility with Jetstream2 resources.
  • Projects are also evaluated on their potential to generate meaningful contributions to their fields.

Fellowship Benefits and Responsibilities

Successful fellows receive a $5,000 stipend at the program’s conclusion. Beyond advancing their research, fellows collaborate with the Jetstream2 team to create educational materials such as tutorials, workshops, and training guides. These resources will be shared widely, supporting broader adoption of AI tools across disciplines.

This community-driven approach reflects Jetstream2’s commitment to making high-performance computing accessible to researchers regardless of their background or experience level.

Examples from Past Fellows

Previous cohorts have included researchers from diverse fields such as health sciences, genetics, applied physics, computational social sciences, and engineering. For example, current fellow Colin Bundschu is developing new methods in renewable energy research, aiming to set standards for applying machine learning to large-scale material property analyses.
