Kansas City Developer Releases Free AI Grant-Writing App for Nonprofits

Barbara Wright, president of Certified Dream Builder Inc., launched Grant Builder Pro Max, an AI-powered application designed to help nonprofit organizations write grants. The app is available on the App Store for iPhones and Google Play for Android devices.

Wright spent years writing grants for the Housing Authority and Kansas City Public Schools before teaching grant writing at Johnson County Community College and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She built the first version of the app about two years ago, then rebuilt it with AI capabilities that launched roughly two months ago.

What the App Does

The app includes a questionnaire and readiness profile that are completely free. After users answer questions about their nonprofit, the tool generates suggestions for improving their organization's readiness to pursue grants.

Wright also hosts free virtual classes covering grant writing for child care programs, veterans services, homelessness initiatives, and housing. The sessions focus on practical questions: How will you sustain operations after grant funding ends? Have you defined your goals and objectives? Who specifically will you serve?

Who's Using It

Wright is currently working with nonprofit leaders and entrepreneurs in Kansas, Colorado, and Florida. Evelyn Deterville, executive director of Extra Mile Club Str8 Up in Florida, said the app allowed her organization to respond more quickly to its mission.

Daniel Haupt, director of Destiny Community Development Center, described Wright as "a catalyst for social entrepreneurs all over the country" and called the app "a powerful tool" for converting mission into income.
