South Korea's Ansan Data Center Project Breaks Ground on 40MW AI Facility
Koramco Asset Management and DCI Data Center, a Brookfield subsidiary, have begun construction on a 40-megawatt AI data center in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province. The companies held a groundbreaking ceremony on June 8 at the site in the Siwha National Industrial Complex.
The facility, called Ansan Siwha AI Data Center (SEL02), will occupy 10,448 square meters with a total floor area of 26,810 square meters. It will operate as a Tier 3 data center, the standard classification for facilities with redundant systems and guaranteed uptime.
Design and Infrastructure
The center will use dual power lines to ensure stable supply for large-scale operations and incorporate high-efficiency cooling systems. The location offers established power and telecommunications infrastructure near major roads, positioning it as a hub for the southwestern region.
DCI will oversee design, construction, and long-term operations. Koramco will establish a project financing vehicle and manage financial structuring and construction oversight.
Part of Broader Strategy
This project marks Koramco's shift from planning to execution in digital infrastructure. The company already operates K Square Data Center Gasan in Seoul and is preparing a 100-megawatt complex data center in Uijeongbu.
Koramco CEO Kim Tae-won said the groundbreaking represents "an important step in turning Koramco's digital infrastructure investment strategy into real business results," citing the company's experience at Gasan and DCI's global expertise.
