Korea Life Insurance Association deploys AI for complaints and ad review, plans 17 projects by 2027

The Korea Life Insurance Association launched three AI systems this month targeting complaint management, advertisement review, and internal regulation searches. The move signals a broader push to automate repetitive tasks across the insurance sector, with the association planning 17 AI projects by 2027.

Real-time complaint handling and ad screening

The Complaint Management AI converts customer consultation content to text in real time, automatically classifies complaint types, and provides counselors with response materials. The Ad Review AI handles initial screening of advertisements based on the association's review regulations and standards. Final decisions remain with designated staff, but the system cuts down on repetitive review work and aims to improve consistency in how standards are applied.

A third system, the Internal Regulation AI, searches the association's 136 internal rules and presents relevant clauses and legal grounds. Within this year, the association also plans to develop an AI that assists in generating questions for the insurance agent registration qualification exam.

Expanding into legal review and contract work

Starting with these three systems, the association will extend AI into legal review, disclosure data verification, article clipping, contract review, translation of overseas materials, and statistical verification. The roadmap targets 17 AI projects by 2027.

Kim Cheol-joo, chairman of the Korea Life Insurance Association, said the goal is broader than internal efficiency. "We will develop AI into a foundational infrastructure that supports all aspects of the association's operations, and share our implementation experience and use cases with member companies to enhance the AI utilization capabilities of the entire life insurance industry."

He added: "AI must go beyond being a tool that simply assists internal work-it should become a means of providing better services to consumers and member companies."

Why the industry sees room for AI adoption

Insurance involves a high volume of document verification across products, terms and conditions, and regulations. An industry official explained that this creates a large share of repetitive review work. If security and accuracy thresholds are met, the productivity gains from AI adoption could be substantial. This aligns with a wider trend of AI for Insurance moving beyond simple document drafting into core operational functions like claims processing and policy automation.

The association's complaint management system also mirrors developments in AI for Customer Support, where real-time text conversion and automated response suggestions are becoming standard tools for service teams handling high inquiry volumes.

Why this matters for insurance professionals

When an industry association deploys AI across its own operations and shares those implementations with member companies, it effectively sets a baseline for what firms will be expected to adopt. For underwriters, claims adjusters, and compliance officers, the next two years will likely bring tools that handle initial document screening, regulation lookups, and complaint triage. The work that remains for humans will shift toward judgment calls on edge cases and final approvals-roles that demand deeper expertise rather than faster processing. Professionals who learn to work alongside these systems now will have an advantage as the 17-project roadmap rolls out across the Korean life insurance sector.
