Laserfiche announced AI Agents at its Empower conference today, allowing users to automate multi-step workflows using natural language prompts. The agents perform complex tasks within the company's security and compliance framework, handling work that typically requires manual effort or custom workflow building.

How the Agents Work

Users access AI Agents through Smart Chat, an AI-powered interface within the Laserfiche repository. The agents inherit the user's specific permissions and access restrictions, maintaining security standards across teams.

The agents use generative AI reasoning to identify conditions in documents and execute bulk actions. They can surface inconsistencies, route documents to appropriate teams, and flag items for review based on user instructions.

Department-Specific Applications

Legal teams can use agents to surface contract inconsistencies and missing metadata, routing flagged documents for review.

Human resources departments can identify demographic information in personnel records and move documents to folders with different security settings.

Accounts payable teams can identify overdue invoices and route them for follow-up.

Government agencies can accelerate public records requests by flagging documents requiring exemption review. Educational institutions can identify documents containing personally identifiable information and apply security tags. Financial services firms can identify compliance signals for exemption review. Manufacturing operations can flag quality issues in inspection reports.

Future Capabilities

Initial release allows one-time agent actions from within Smart Chat. Future updates will add scheduled processes, embedding agents in business workflows, and background monitoring that completes tasks without manual intervention.

"The 'where' of document storage is not going to be as important as it used to be," said Justin Pava, Laserfiche chief product evangelist. "You won't have to spend time organizing data, you will be able to simply act on it."
