Lexroom enters France and Bulgaria with dual acquisition
Italian legal AI company Lexroom has acquired French start-up Query Juriste and Bulgarian firm Praven Intelekt, expanding its European footprint to five markets. The deals, announced this week, add France and Bulgaria to Lexroom's existing operations in Italy, Germany, and Spain.
Query Juriste builds AI-powered legal research tools that search relevant legal sources, analyse material, and produce structured reports for lawyers and legal teams. Praven Intelekt operates as an AI assistant for Bulgarian law, handling legal research, document analysis, and drafting. Financial terms of both acquisitions were not disclosed.
A jurisdiction-specific strategy
Lexroom argues that scaling legal AI across Europe requires products built on local, certified, and structured legal data rather than general-purpose models. The company says this approach demands investment in legal data, compliance, product capabilities, and local industry staff for each jurisdiction.
The Milan-based company, founded three years ago, specialises in civil law markets. Its tools help lawyers with drafting legal documents, legal research, and contract summarisation. Paolo Fois, co-founder and CEO of Lexroom, said the acquisitions reflect a deliberate strategy to avoid rebuilding technology market by market. "Over the past year we've met dozens of founders building toward a mission close to ours. Query Juriste and Praven Intelekt stood out immediately: exceptional teams, real traction and products built with the same conviction we started Lexroom with. It doesn't make sense to reinvent the wheel market by market."
Fois added: "When we find founders who've already built something great, the smartest move is to combine Lexroom's technology, scale and capital with local expertise and hustle. That's how you build the category-defining platform for legal AI in Europe."
Etienne Le Guay, co-founder and CEO of Query Juriste, will lead Lexroom's development in France. He said his firm was built on the conviction that AI is only useful to lawyers if it runs on legal data rather than a general-purpose model. "We joined Lexroom because they built on the same data-first principle," Le Guay said. "It's a chance to accelerate what we started in France and bring it to European scale."
Query Juriste was founded in Paris two years ago by Le Guay, COO Maxence Mortagne, and Emile-Luciano Lombardo. Praven Intelekt launched in Sofia last year, founded by CEO Siyanna Lilova, CTO Rangel Milushev, and CRO Chris Tsanov. Lilova will become Lexroom's head of Central and Eastern Europe.
Funding momentum
Lexroom raised $50 million in a Series B round in May, led by Left Lane Capital with participation from Base10 Partners, Acurio Ventures, View Different, Entourage, and Eurazeo. That followed a $19 million Series A in September of the previous year.
