LG AI Research Earns Telly Awards for Documentary Being the Machine

LG AI Research Institute's short documentary Being the Machine received two accolades at the 46th Telly Awards on the 15th. It won a silver award in the "Science & Institutional Sector" category and a bronze award in the "Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)" category.

The Telly Awards, established in 1979, honor outstanding video and television content based on creativity, clarity of message, and directorial execution. This recognition highlights the strength of storytelling combined with AI research.

About the Documentary

Being the Machine was created through a joint research project between LG and Parsons School of Design titled The Era of Creative Consolidation: Human Relationships in the Age of AI. Professor Lim Jeong-gi from Parsons led the production, integrating LG AI Research Institute’s AI agent service ChatEXAONE.

The film explores how emotional empathy and connection form when AI-generated responses are expressed in human language. It features a Parsons student asking questions to AI, with another student voicing the AI’s answers, creating a unique dialogue between human and machine.

Significance for Science and Research Professionals

  • This documentary offers valuable insight into human-AI interaction, particularly the emotional and communicative aspects.
