Scott Strain, a longtime resident of Girard and an IT graduate, has merged his passion for technology with his interest in American history to create a unique book titled History According to AI: The U.S Presidents. Working in law enforcement since 2002 and currently serving at the Girard Municipal Court, Strain used artificial intelligence tools to craft an unbiased recounting of U.S. presidential history.
Using AI to Remove Bias from Historical Writing
Strain’s motivation was simple: write a historical narrative without the usual political slant. “I wondered how AI could help me tell a political story without bias,” he explained. After exploring multiple AI platforms, he settled on Grammarly’s AI features to assist in writing and editing his book.
It took about a month for Strain to complete the project using Grammarly’s AI, which he credits with handling most of the storytelling. “I wrote and edited the book, but AI did the bulk of the work,” he said. This approach allowed him to present history through a fresh lens, combining traditional research with modern technology.
Creative Collaboration Beyond Writing
For the book cover, Strain turned to a digital artist on Fiverr. He wanted a striking image of George Washington that blended a traditional portrait with an AI-generated interpretation. The final design perfectly matched his vision, earning him numerous compliments.
Discoveries Along the Way
While editing his book, Strain uncovered interesting facts about past presidents. For example, Franklin D. Roosevelt was the only president to serve three terms before the 22nd Amendment limited presidents to two terms. “Before Roosevelt, presidents typically served two terms,” Strain noted. This historical detail feels relevant today, especially given recent political discussions about presidential term limits.
Who Should Read This Book?
History According to AI: The U.S Presidents is available for purchase on Amazon. Strain believes it serves as a concise, accessible introduction to the presidency, especially for high school students seeking a clear overview of each leader’s time in office.
Writers interested in blending AI with traditional storytelling can find inspiration in Strain’s process.
