Lockheed Martin demonstrated a Guam Defense System (GDS) Battle Manager Suite prototype in a simulated Guam operational environment at the Army Tactical Systems Integration Lab in Fort Bliss, Texas. The demonstration took place less than two months after the U.S. Army issued its call for a GDS Battle Manager Suite solution in June 2026.

The prototype networks data from the Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) weapon systems slated for deployment to Guam. It provides a single integrated air picture, applies AI analytics, and delivers fire direction recommendations to help operators make faster engagement decisions.

How the prototype works

The system continuously examines hundreds of threat tracks and recommends the best response for each, enabling operators to process more information and make faster, more informed decisions. It merges live data from IAMD systems, including Aegis Guam and IBCS, into one integrated view, allowing commanders to see the entire joint operating area, including weapon inventory and engagement opportunity.

Through an open architecture, the suite integrates new software, pre-planned warfighter responses, Air Task Orders, Airspace Control Orders, and IAMD planner defense designs. It was integrated into the lab environment within 24 hours of arrival and met all demonstration criteria.

The demonstration builds on Lockheed Martin's work at Valiant Shield 2026, where the company showed rapid software-driven command and control integration across multiple industry partners.

Replacing manual coordination

Traditional IAMD battle management relies on operators juggling documents, voice calls, text message coordination, and manual calculations - a process that is time-consuming and prone to error. The GDS Battle Manager Suite, powered by Lockheed Martin's CommandIQ, replaces those steps with AI-driven, algorithmic shot selection informed by thousands of simulations.

"In missile defense, seconds can determine whether an operator protects a populated island or exhausts precious interceptors," said Tiffany Marr, director of CommandIQ, Golden Dome for America C2 and Advanced Concepts at Lockheed Martin. "When you give commanders a single, real-time status of every sensor, weapon system, and munition loadout, then automatically recommend the optimal weapon for each incoming threat, they can make faster decisions, preserve ammunition and maximize protection of critical assets at machine speed."
