Machinex launches MIND, an AI platform that optimizes entire recycling facilities

Machinex unveiled MIND at IFAT Munich 2026, an AI platform that coordinates material sorting and decision-making across an entire material recovery facility (MRF) rather than managing individual machines in isolation.

The platform combines computer vision, machine learning, and real-time analytics into a single system. MIND continuously learns from live material streams, allowing MRFs to adapt to changing inputs while maintaining throughput, purity, and consistency.

What MIND does

The platform handles material classification, real-time operational decisions, system-wide optimization, and advanced reporting for traceability and compliance. It integrates across Machinex equipment including the SamurAI sorting robot, Hyspec, MIND AI-enhanced optical sorter, MIND AirPulse, and MIND Vision.

Chris Hawn, CEO of Machinex Technologies, said the shift reflects a fundamental change in how recycling operations function. "Intelligence has been applied to one machine at a time. With MIND, we're extending that intelligence across multiple units into a unified system."

MIND AirPulse

Machinex also introduced MIND AirPulse, an AI-powered pneumatic sorting system that achieves sorting rates exceeding 20 times that of manual sorting. The system operates at high speed while maintaining precision and quality control.

Why this matters for operations

Modern MRFs face three persistent challenges: increasing material stream complexity, tighter purity requirements, and growing traceability and compliance obligations. MIND addresses these by providing operators centralized control and actionable data across their entire facility.

The platform has been in operation at recycling facilities since 2019. Pierre ParΓ©, president and owner of Machinex Group, said the system draws on the company's 55 years of equipment innovation.
