Marc Lewis, Dean of the School of Communication Arts in London, launched SCAFFOLD on July 13, 2026, an AI platform that lets creative professionals train and permanently own a personal AI, addressing the risk that generic AI tools are making creative output indistinguishable.
Research by Kapwing found that 59% of videos served to new accounts on TikTok's For You feed are "AI slop," roughly three times the rate found on YouTube. For brands and marketing teams relying on off-the-shelf AI tools, the risk of work looking and sounding like every competitor is real, undermining the uniqueness that brand value depends on.
How SCAFFOLD works
SCAFFOLD is designed to be a personal AI for Creatives who want to stand out whilst benefitting from AI's capabilities. Rather than fine-tuning on past work, it uses a structured methodology drawn from cognitive science and Lewis's coaching practice. Users spend around two hours in a structured conversation with MarcAI, an AI trained on Lewis's crit-room method, which maps their thinking, tastes, preferences, and quirks into a personal Blueprint. That Blueprint becomes an Exoskeleton: a personal AI agent that works alongside the user on real briefs, in their own voice, and carries across the AI tools they already use.
Ownership, not rental
Unlike platforms that lock training data inside a subscription, what a SCAFFOLD user builds is theirs to keep. "Most of what sits on your desktop, you rent, you don't own it. And the day you stop paying, it locks you out and keeps everything you put inside it," said Marc Lewis. "The obvious, lazy, deeply profitable move would have been to keep that on our servers and rent it back to you forever, but we couldn't do it."
Keeping the human in charge
Lewis believes that real creative work comes from lived experience. "AI hasn't lived. It hasn't danced. It hasn't been dumped at 2am and then sat in a kebab shop at closing time trying to make sense of its life," he said. "SCAFFOLD keeps the human in charge of the machine. It learns your taste and your process, then does the grunt work in your voice rather than flattening you into everyone else's."
New users can try SCAFFOLD free for 30 days at scaffoldworks.ai, and keep everything they build, even if they cancel.
Why this matters for creatives
For freelance creatives, in-house teams, and agencies, the pressure to produce distinctive work at speed is constant. SCAFFOLD offers a way to use AI without ceding control over voice and style, and without locking you into a recurring subscription. The permanent ownership of the trained AI means a creative's digital assistant evolves with them, not with the platform's profit model.
