Six-Day Hackathon Challenges Creatives to Build AI-Native Products

A six-day hackathon running April 23-29 will bring together developers, designers, and creators to build AI-powered tools and experiences for digital media. The Creative AI & Digital Media Hackathon, organized in partnership with Maximally, asks participants to do more than automate creativity-to expand it.

The event differs from typical hackathons by requiring participants to test products with real users rather than submit prototypes. Projects must demonstrate meaningful AI integration, strong user experience, and cultural resonance.

What You Can Build

Submissions can span multiple formats:

  • Generative video and AI-driven storytelling
  • Adaptive music and audio systems
  • Virtual influencers and AI personas
  • Generative art and visual design
  • Interactive and social experiences designed for sharing

Judges will evaluate entries on originality, how well AI is used, user experience, and cultural impact.

Key Dates

  • Kickoff: April 23, 2026 at 9 AM CET
  • Submission deadline: April 29, 2026 at 11 PM CET
  • Winners announced: May 5, 2026

Who's Running It

Maximally, the organizing platform, focuses on building what it calls "high-signal, execution-driven" environments. The approach strips away typical hackathon noise-no filler projects-to encourage real collaboration on actual problems.

The platform provides participants with mentorship, shared resources, and connections to a larger community of builders. Funds go directly to hackathon operations, infrastructure, prizes, and long-term community support.

Why Now

AI has already changed how media is produced and consumed. AI for creatives is moving beyond novelty into core creative practice. The distinction between creator and tool continues to blur, with the next generation of digital products built around AI rather than simply using it.

This hackathon captures that shift in real time. For creatives, it's a chance to experiment at the intersection of technology and culture-and to build something people actually want to use.
