Meta Launches Private AI Chat That It Cannot Access
Meta is rolling out Incognito Chat with Meta AI on WhatsApp and its Meta AI app, a mode where conversations with the AI remain completely private - even from Meta itself. The feature, built on WhatsApp's Private Processing technology, processes messages in a secure environment that Meta cannot read or access.
Users increasingly ask AI systems sensitive questions about health, finances, and career decisions. Incognito Chat addresses privacy concerns by ensuring no one can see these conversations. Messages are not saved and disappear by default.
How It Works
When you start an Incognito Chat, you create a temporary conversation visible only to you. Your messages are processed in a secure environment that Meta cannot enter. The company cannot read the questions you ask or the answers the AI provides.
Other apps offer incognito modes, but those services can still see incoming questions and outgoing responses. Incognito Chat removes that visibility entirely.
Broader Rollout Plans
Meta plans to introduce Sidechat in coming months, another private feature protected by Private Processing. Sidechat will provide AI assistance within WhatsApp conversations, offering context-aware help without disrupting the main discussion.
