Millennium Systems International names Michael Wagner CTO to lead AI development

Millennium Systems International, the developer of Meevo software for salons, spas, and med spas, has appointed Michael Wagner as chief technology officer. Wagner will lead the company's engineering organization as MSI moves to an AI-native product development model, a shift that could change how the company builds and delivers software to its base of more than 150,000 daily users.

Wagner brings more than 35 years of technology leadership experience spanning SaaS, artificial intelligence, analytics, retail, and supply chain. At MSI, he will oversee the engineering organization's transformation, expand AI use across the product development lifecycle, and work with product management to speed delivery of new Meevo capabilities.

The appointment gives MSI an executive who has implemented AI and machine learning inside operating software businesses, rather than treating the technologies as standalone features. His mandate covers both the engineering team itself and the processes used to build and deploy AI-powered functionality for beauty and wellness clients.

An engineering leader with operational software experience

Wagner most recently served as chief product and technology officer at Fishbowl Inventory, where he led an AI-native SaaS platform for inventory and manufacturing operations. That role combined infrastructure duties with product development in environments where software must coordinate complex operational workflows.

Previously, he was vice president of engineering at GAINS Systems, leading globally distributed teams and overseeing adoption of AI and machine learning, including demand prediction and LLM-powered experiences. He also served as CTO at Click, formerly ClickDimensions, where he transformed the global engineering organization and led work on an Azure-based Lakehouse for advanced analytics.

"Michael brings a rare combination of experience in transforming engineering organizations and building AI-powered products that create real customer value," said MSI CEO Connie Certusi. "He will help evolve MSI to an AI-native product development model - partnering closely with Product Management - to accelerate innovation and deliver smarter solutions that help salons, spas, and med spas grow."

Wagner holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Valparaiso University. He is a frequent speaker on AI and machine learning architecture and enterprise change management, and he resides in Atlanta.

What changes for Meevo

MSI has developed business management software for beauty and wellness businesses for more than three decades. Its Meevo platform consolidates functions like scheduling, client management, and payments into a single environment, and is positioned as HIPAA-compliant, a key consideration for med spas and other health-adjacent businesses.

The company said the new CTO will focus on embedding AI throughout the development lifecycle rather than adding isolated AI features. That approach affects both customer-facing capabilities and how engineers build, test, and release software, potentially shortening development cycles for the platform.

The organizational part of his mandate matters too. Wagner's background includes restructuring engineering groups, and managing distributed teams, experience MSI plans to apply as it integrates engineering more closely with product management. As a long-time leader in engineering with hands-on experience in data infrastructure, his background maps directly onto the technical demands of AI-native software platforms. For proof, his role in building an Azure-based data infrastructure at Click supports that writing.

For product development professionals, the takeaway is direct: building AI into existing software, rather than bolt-on features, requires simultaneous work on infrastructure, organizational structure, and user workflows. MSI is putting that work behind a single executive with a track record of operationalizing AI, not just calling in for demos.

Salon, spa, and med spa operators rely on their management software across daily operations, regardless of how it is built. The reliability demands on MSI's existing base mean the engineering transition needs to happen without breaking what already works - the challenge that now sits with Wagner.
