The North American Conference on Computational Intelligence, Data Science and Cloud Computing (NACDC 2026) wrapped up August 12 at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver after three days of sessions that drew more than 12,000 on-site and online participants. Hosted by the Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM) Kolkata and the University of Engineering & Management (UEM) Kolkata, the conference gave researchers from over 35 countries a platform to present work in AI, data science, and cloud infrastructure.

The event ran from August 10 to 12 with keynote lectures, four paper-presentation tracks, two workshops, and a valedictory session that included the Best Paper Awards. Papers went through a double-blind peer-review process, and the acceptance rate landed near 26 percent - a sign of the organizers' emphasis on quality over volume.

Leadership and opening remarks

Prof. Banani Chakrabarti, Patron of NACDC 2026 and Chancellor of UEM Kolkata, opened the conference on August 10 alongside Prof. Dr. Satyajit Chakrabarti, President of SMART Society, USA and Vice Chancellor of UEM Kolkata. Prof. Bob Gill of the British Columbia Institute of Technology and Prof. Dr. Leo S. F. Lin of Charles Sturt University, Australia, also joined the ceremony.

In her address, Chakrabarti tied the pace of computational research to responsibility. "Progress without values is merely motion. My hope for NACDC 2026 is that we advance not only in what we can compute, but in the wisdom and humanity with which we choose to do so," she said.

NACDC 2026 builds on a research environment that gained strength in October 2025, when UEM Kolkata unveiled SATYAMEBA, a supercomputing system for AI and multi-GPU acceleration. That machine supports research in fields including medical imaging, quantum technology, and cloud-native systems.

Workshops and speaker sessions

Alongside the main program, organizers ran workshops on running local AI models on Android and iOS devices, and on the intersection of AI, machine learning, and robotics. The Google Developer Group conducted some of the sessions.

Keynote speakers came from academia and industry, and the technical papers were organized across four tracks: Computational Intelligence & Artificial Intelligence; Data Science & Big Data Analytics; Cloud Computing & Infrastructure; and Advanced & Emerging Technologies.

International participation

Papers came from countries including the United States, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, Egypt, and South Africa. The proceedings will be published by Nova Science Publishers.

Prof. Dr. Satyajit Chakrabarti closed the event with a reflection on what had brought the group together. "In an era defined by algorithms, our most valuable resource remains the human imagination. NACDC 2026 brings the world's imagination together - and that is where real innovation is born," he said. For researchers working at the intersection of AI for Science & Research, the conference was a direct look at the current state of computational inquiry, with accepted papers landing on themes that arguably sat at the edge of practical application and open questions.

Why this matters for researchers

NACDC 2026 is a signal for researchers working in computational fields: the infrastructure for large-scale AI work is moving from centralized national labs to university-hosted systems, and international collaboration is now a routine part of the workload.
