Andhra Pradesh to Launch AI-Enabled Health Monitoring System Statewide

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced that the Sanjeevani Digital Healthcare project will launch across the state on August 15. The system uses digital technology and artificial intelligence to identify diseases early and deliver preventive care.

The project conducts 42 medical tests at people's homes and stores results as digital health records. Doctors monitor these records continuously to provide preventive treatment. The state plans to eventually hand monitoring duties to an AI-enabled system.

Sanjeevani began as a pilot in Kuppam last year and expanded to Chittoor district in March 2024, covering 19.75 lakh people. The statewide rollout represents a significant expansion of the digital health infrastructure.

Funding and Coverage

The state government allocated ₹19,305 crore to the health sector this year, plus ₹2,601 crore from the 15th Finance Commission. Under the Universal Health Policy, every citizen receives ₹2.5 lakh in medical coverage, with additional expenses up to ₹25 lakh covered through separate relief funds.

The government is filling vacant positions in state hospitals as part of the broader health system overhaul.

Preventive Care Focus

Naidu emphasized lifestyle changes alongside digital monitoring. He advised people to practice yoga, meditation, and pranayama daily and to view food as medicine.

The project's name references the Sanjeevani herb from Hindu mythology, which Lord Hanuman brought to save Lakshmana's life.

Relevance for Government Employees

Government workers in Andhra Pradesh will be eligible for the system's benefits. The statewide launch represents one of India's larger AI for Healthcare implementations in the public sector.

This initiative reflects broader efforts by state administrations to integrate AI for Government services. Understanding how such systems work is increasingly relevant for officials involved in health policy, digital infrastructure, or public administration.
