NFTS Launches First AI-Focused Training Program for Film and Television Professionals

The National Film and Television School (NFTS) has launched a new part-time training program focused on artificial intelligence in film and television production. Starting September 2025, this six-month online course runs weekly and is delivered in partnership with Deep Fusion Films.

Responding to growing interest in AI tools for storytelling, post-production, and distribution, NFTS created the Certificate in AI Protocols and Practices for Film and Television. The course will cover the opportunities and challenges of integrating AI across all stages of the production process.

Ethical AI in Creative Work

Targeted at freelancers, creatives, and industry professionals, the program offers workshops, tutorials, and masterclasses. Participants will get hands-on experience with current AI tools and engage with key issues like copyright, consent, authorship, and bias.

Deep Fusion Films, known for AI-supported projects such as Virtually Parkinson and Hammer: Heroes, Legends and Monsters, is collaborating on the course. Benjamin Field, co-founder and CEO of Deep Fusion, will lead the program.

Jon Wardle, Director of NFTS, explains the goal: “We want to prepare storytellers not just for today’s industry but for what’s coming next. This course goes beyond learning tools—it’s about developing critical thinking and ethical awareness to use AI responsibly, opening new creative doors and collaborations.”

Practical Training and Industry Insights

The curriculum will analyze current uses of AI in real productions and their impact on creative roles. Benjamin Field and NFTS’s Director of Curriculum, Mark Readman, will participate in a live discussion on AI and creative skills at the Creative Cities Convention’s Skills Summit on May 7 in Bradford.

Scholarships and Support

Scholarships are available in partnership with PACT, the UK screen sector trade body. Two 50% scholarships will be offered to applicants from small PACT member companies or freelancers. Additionally, Deep Fusion Films will provide a third bursary.

Benjamin Field emphasizes the practical focus: “AI is already influencing the screen industries today. This course isn’t about hype or fear. We’re equipping creatives with tools, context, and confidence to work with AI responsibly and artistically. It’s about helping people use technology to explore new creative possibilities while protecting industry values and rights.”

For creatives interested in expanding their skills with AI, this course offers a timely chance to gain relevant knowledge and engage with ethical considerations. More information on similar training programs can be found at Complete AI Training’s latest AI courses.
