Novo Nordisk and Anthropic have formed a collaboration to deploy Claude in drug discovery and software development, marking the pharmaceutical company's latest move to embed AI across its research operations. The deal gives Novo Nordisk's scientists and computational teams access to Anthropic's frontier models to build targeted tools for scientific workflows and biological reasoning.
What the partnership covers
The companies will jointly identify drug-discovery bottlenecks and develop AI applications to address them. Novo Nordisk plans to test Claude Science in select R&D workflows, focusing on problems where their combined expertise is expected to deliver the greatest impact.
Beyond the lab, the pharmaceutical company will use Anthropic's models for AI-assisted software development as it works to expand AI use across its operations. The collaboration includes data-governance controls and human oversight to keep the technology aligned with Novo Nordisk's ethical and compliance standards.

A pattern of AI investments
The Anthropic deal extends a series of AI partnerships Novo Nordisk has assembled this year. In April, the company partnered with OpenAI to apply its models across drug discovery, manufacturing, commercial operations, and supply-chain management. Doustdar described that agreement as "one important step in positioning Novo Nordisk to lead in the next era of healthcare."
August brought a partnership with H1 to develop AI models for clinical trial design, enrollment, and site selection. Novo Nordisk also expanded its relationship with Amazon Web Services to establish an AI drug-discovery hub in London, where it will use AWS tools to analyze genomic, imaging, and clinical data and automate research workflows.
