Panopto has added AI features to its video platform, giving organisations a way to search, repurpose, and measure the value of their recorded video libraries. The new tools target a common problem for large employers and universities that have accumulated years of meetings, lectures, and training sessions but lack efficient ways to make that content usable.
AI search and video recasting
AI Search lets users ask questions in plain language and receive answers pulled directly from an organisation's video library, with links to the exact moments in recordings where the information appears. That allows viewers to check the original context instead of relying on a generated response alone. AI Recast converts existing videos into shorter learning modules narrated by avatars, letting organisations adapt town halls, lectures, or onboarding material into focused training assets without recreating content from scratch.
Quizzes, analytics, and data integration
The platform also adds AI Quiz Generation, which automatically produces knowledge checks from presentations and videos. Quiz text remains editable, so instructors can tailor the material while keeping the first draft tied to the source content. Connect Analytics tracks how viewers consume content, showing engagement trends, drop-off points, and which material attracts the most attention. A Knowledge Insights Data Connector sends Panopto data into tools like Power BI, Tableau, and Excel, allowing employers to compare learning engagement with performance metrics, and universities to connect viewing patterns to student progress indicators.
Panopto also introduced a Connect User Management API for handling user provisioning across groups, and an integration with Workday Learning that places Panopto content directly inside an existing learning workflow.
Leadership comments on trust and measurement
Stephen Laster, Chief Executive Officer of Panopto, said the company's nearly two decades of working with universities and corporations shaped the new releases. "For nearly two decades, we have partnered with leading educational institutions and forward-thinking corporations to make visual knowledge and learning more accessible, engaging, and impactful," Laster said. "That heritage continues to shape everything we build."
He also pointed to the need for verification and reinforcement. "Helping people find trusted sources of information so that they can efficiently move forward is one part of knowledge intelligence," Laster said. "In both formal and informal learning, people need reinforcement and practice. Educators and sponsors need to understand how knowledge is being used and connect learning to measurable outcomes."
Why this matters for education professionals
The platform is used by more than 2,000 organisations worldwide, including many universities exploring AI for Education to improve how students and staff access recorded lectures. With these tools, instructors can turn archived lecture recordings into searchable study aids, automatically generate quiz questions from existing course videos, and see real data on how students engage with material. That moves video from a passive storage problem to an active learning resource, with concrete links to student success analytics.
