Pentagon feeds decades of military research data into AI platform

The U.S. Department of Defense will feed decades of validated military research data into a new AI-driven scientific platform under the White House-led Genesis Mission. The initiative gives researchers access to a larger pool of data for accelerating scientific discovery and defense innovation.

The data will be integrated into the Department of Energy's American Science and Security Platform. That platform combines datasets, high-performance computing, scientific instruments, and AI tools to support automated design workflows and advance national security research.

Genesis Mission and Data Integration

Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering Emil Michael said, "President Trump has mandated that the United States be the dominant global leader in AI, and the Genesis Mission represents an unprecedented opportunity to unlock our nation's scientific might." The initiative highlights the growing role of AI for Science & Research in accelerating discovery across disciplines.

Why this matters for science and research professionals

Access to decades of validated defense data can open new avenues for modeling, simulation, and experimentation. Researchers working on materials science, engineering, and national security challenges will have a broader empirical foundation for their work, potentially shortening the timeline from hypothesis to result.
