Pepper releases price management suite for independent food distributors

Pepper released its Price Management and Pricing Agent suite on June 10, giving independent food distributors a new way to identify and capture lost profit margins. The tools address a common industry problem where sales representatives routinely discount prices without realizing the cumulative financial impact on the business.

How the pricing tools work

The Price Management module compares item-level pricing across a distributor's entire customer portfolio against a peer set of comparable clients. This exposes areas where representatives underprice goods. The AI-driven Pricing Agent takes this a step further by scanning individual books of business to identify the highest-value opportunities. It then delivers specific pricing recommendations that representatives can accept, reject, or modify.

"Every distributor sales leader knows their reps are leaving margin on the table," said Andrew Linville, Pepper's product manager for Price Management. "The problem has never been awareness; it's been visibility. Price Management makes the gap visible, while our Pricing Agent makes it actionable."

Real-world impact on sales behavior

Early adopters across North America are already seeing a shift in how sales teams handle pricing. Previously, 80 to 90 percent of price edits made by representatives were decreases. Under the new system, 60 to 70 percent of price edits result in margin increases.

"The reps who are fully into it, I'm seeing a one to two per cent margin increase," said Dave Penrith, VP of Street Sales at Flanagan Foodservice. Managers looking to optimize this type of revenue growth can explore an AI Learning Path for Sales Managers to better understand how these technologies reshape team performance.

Deployment and integration

Unlike enterprise software designed for national broadliners, this suite is purpose-built for independent distributors. Because it operates within Pepper's existing platform, it relies on the same data and ERP integrations that drive the rest of the ecosystem. Existing customers can activate the tools immediately without additional integration work.

New customers deploy the system through a structured pilot. This process includes ERP integration, representative training, and the establishment of defined success metrics. Those interested in broader applications of AI for Sales can review how automated recommendations are changing revenue optimization strategies.

Why this matters for managers

Sales managers carry the responsibility of driving profitability while supporting their teams. This technology shifts the burden of margin analysis from manual guesswork to automated, data-backed recommendations. Managers can now focus their coaching on how representatives evaluate specific pricing opportunities, rather than chasing down unexplained revenue leaks after the fact.
