Ping An Group, one of China's largest insurers, has launched an AI-driven health longevity coaching service and opened 11 dedicated centres across the country. The move shifts the company's healthcare offering from passive treatment to proactive, full-cycle management - a strategy that could reshape how health insurance is delivered and priced.
The service, built on medicine, AI, and advanced technology, establishes four safeguards: preemptive screening, 24-hour emergency response, full-process medical assistance, and full-cycle multi-disease co-management. Together, they aim to catch health risks early and coordinate care across multiple conditions.
From reactive care to continuous health management
He Mingke, CEO of Ping An Good Doctor, said the system addresses population ageing by combining baseline health protection with tailored proactive interventions. It delivers targeted interventions across behavioural, physical, and mental health. Key focus areas include long-term chronic disease management, lifestyle habit formation, metabolic and physical function maintenance, and cognitive health.
The coaching service reflects a broader use of AI for Healthcare by insurers to manage chronic conditions and reduce long-term claims. Instead of waiting for policyholders to get sick, Ping An's model embeds continuous monitoring and coaching into the insurance relationship.
National rollout of longevity centres
The company also unveiled 11 "Ping An Health Longevity Centres" nationwide, built on its existing self-operated testing facilities. The centres serve as physical hubs for the AI-driven coaching, offering screenings and interventions that feed into the digital health management system.
Why this matters for insurance professionals
For insurance professionals, Ping An's model demonstrates how AI for Insurance can extend beyond underwriting and claims into continuous health coaching. By shifting the focus to prevention, insurers can potentially reduce claims costs, improve customer retention, and create new products tied to real-time health data. The rollout signals that large carriers are starting to treat health management as a core insurance function, not an add-on.
