Piraeus and Accenture Launch AI Hub Powered by Anthropic's Claude

Piraeus, Greece's largest bank by market share, and Accenture announced the launch of a dedicated AI Hub on April 20, 2026. The hub will serve as a central development facility for designing and scaling AI capabilities across the bank's operations, customer experience, risk management, and compliance functions.

The collaboration brings together Accenture's Data & AI Center of Excellence in Athens with Piraeus' AI strategy. Anthropic's Claude AI models will power the platform, with a focus on secure, responsible deployment in a regulated industry.

What the Hub Will Do

The AI Hub will modernize banking processes across Piraeus' full value chain. This includes automating decision support, streamlining complex workflows, and improving both customer and employee experiences.

Talent development is a core component. Piraeus plans targeted recruitment and structured learning programs through Udacity, Accenture's AI-native training platform, to build AI skills across the organization.

Governance and Responsible AI

Piraeus and Accenture will prioritize governance and transparency in AI deployment. The bank's chief operating officer, Harry Margaritis, said the hub represents "a unified, enterprise-level capability that is deeply embedded in how the Bank operates," anchored in "strong governance, transparency and human control."

Thomas Remy, head of Southern Europe, Middle East & Africa for Anthropic, said Claude was built with "the safety, reliability and transparency that highly regulated industries like banking demand."

Building on Existing Work

This initiative builds on Piraeus' prior cloud-first transformation with Accenture, which improved digital service delivery, security, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Piraeus, founded in 1916, operates 368 branches nationwide and reported €91 billion in total assets as of December 31, 2025. The bank employs approximately 8,100 professionals.
