Progress Software released a new version of its Telerik and Kendo UI development tools on Tuesday, embedding AI directly into UI generation, debugging, and document processing. The update targets engineering teams moving from AI-assisted coding to building applications that both humans and AI agents can interact with reliably.
AI moves deeper into the development workflow
The release introduces a set of capabilities that push AI beyond code suggestions. A new Agentic UI Generator bakes component-level accessibility compliance into the design process, cutting the manual work typically required to meet standards. For debugging, Fiddler Agent Skills gives coding assistants direct visibility into network traffic and can proactively alert developers to problems along with suggested fixes.
On the document side, agent tools within the Telerik Document Processing Libraries let applications extract structured data, analyze Excel files, convert formats, and generate documents without calling external AI services. The libraries keep document processing inside the application boundary - a detail that matters for teams with strict data residency or security requirements.
Building interfaces that agents can use
One of the more technically notable additions is WebMCP, a mechanism that lets AI agents interact directly with application interfaces. The approach sidesteps screen-scraping, which tends to break when UIs change. For development teams maintaining older Windows Forms applications, the release includes automated conversion to Telerik UI for WinForms using intelligent control mapping, code parsing, and MCP-based automation.
Progress also added a way to connect .NET applications to its RAG-as-a-Service product, letting apps use large language models to analyze and converse with unstructured enterprise data. New UI components - Smart Paste, PromptBox, and SmartBox - ship alongside broader framework support and integrated AI chat in the documentation.
