Salesforce completes Fin acquisition, adding 30,000 customers to AI service platform

Salesforce closed its acquisition of Fin, the AI customer service platform formerly known as Intercom, adding more than 30,000 customers and a specialized technical team to its Agentforce business on September 10, 2026. The deal gives Salesforce an established product with measurable resolution activity at a moment when enterprises are racing to deploy autonomous agents that handle service interactions with limited human involvement.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Fin will operate within Salesforce AI Labs, continuing to serve existing customers while developing its customer agent technology alongside Salesforce's broader platform.

What Fin brings to the table

Fin's platform runs on proprietary AI models built specifically for customer experience. The company said its agent handles complex queries from initial contact through resolution and achieves an average resolution rate of 76%. The technology already works across live chat, email, WhatsApp, SMS, voice and Slack - channels where support teams are actively looking to automate high-volume, repetitive interactions.

"The future of customer service is autonomous, intelligent, and built on trust," Salesforce Chair and CEO Marc Benioff said. He said Fin's technology and AI team will strengthen Agentforce and help companies deploy customer-facing agents more quickly.

Two platforms, different deployment paths

The strategic fit hinges partly on giving customers different on-ramps to AI. Fin is designed to integrate with help desks and service systems already in use, letting businesses introduce AI agents without replacing their broader infrastructure. Agentforce offers a more customizable platform for building and deploying agents across Salesforce applications, enterprise data and business processes.

Bringing the two together lets Salesforce address companies that want rapid service automation alongside large enterprises pursuing deeper AI-driven transformation. Fin's ability to work with third-party help desks may also open doors to customers not ready to consolidate their service stack onto Salesforce.

Distribution scale and a dedicated AI team

For Fin, the acquisition provides a significantly larger distribution channel. "The big strategic benefit of our decision to join Salesforce is magnitudes more businesses and their customers that we can bring it to," said Fin CEO and co-founder Eoghan McCabe.

The deal also delivers a team focused specifically on building models for customer experience - systems that must interpret requests, retrieve information, interact across channels and complete service tasks while maintaining context. That capability feeds directly into Salesforce's effort to make AI Agents & Automation a core layer across its CRM platform, connecting agents with enterprise applications, customer data and workflows.

Why this matters for customer support professionals

Customer service has become one of the most immediate commercial applications for autonomous AI agents because organizations handle large volumes of repetitive interactions daily. This acquisition signals that the technology is moving from pilot programs to platforms with tens of thousands of live deployments. For support leaders, the key watchpoint is how Fin's 76% resolution rate translates when combined with Agentforce's enterprise data integration - and whether the "integrate with existing help desks" approach lowers the barrier to adoption compared to a full platform migration. The practical question is not whether AI agents will enter your support stack, but how quickly your team will need to design escalation paths and oversight processes for the interactions they handle.
