Samsung SDS Wins Rights to Sell OpenAI's Education-Focused ChatGPT Edu
Samsung SDS secured the exclusive right to resell OpenAI's ChatGPT Edu in Korea, the company announced on April 27. The deal expands Samsung SDS's partnership with OpenAI beyond enterprise software into the education sector.
ChatGPT Edu is built for schools, universities, and publishers. It runs on OpenAI's GPT-5 model and includes features like text generation, coding assistance, data analysis, web browsing, and document summarization. The service lets institutions create custom chatbots tailored to their needs.
Data privacy sets ChatGPT Edu apart from standard ChatGPT. Conversations between teachers and students are not used to train OpenAI's models. This protection matters for institutions handling sensitive academic and research information.
OpenAI developed ChatGPT Edu based on how universities deployed ChatGPT Enterprise. The service is already in use at Oxford University, the University of London, the Wharton School, and the National University of Singapore.
Samsung SDS is testing ChatGPT Edu with Korea National Open University, which has roughly 90,000 students, faculty, and staff. The proof-of-concept phase will determine how the service integrates into the university's operations.
