SHARE3DCAM Releases AI-Powered Point Cloud Software for Construction and Renovation
SHARE3DCAM released SHARE PointClouds Studio V2.5.0 on June 5, introducing AI-assisted CAD draft generation and improved point cloud processing for architecture, engineering, construction, and renovation professionals. The software upgrade targets a shift in where bottlenecks occur: capturing spaces has become fast and accessible, but converting that raw scan data into usable design files remains time-consuming and error-prone.
The core problem the update addresses is familiar to renovation teams. Traditional measurement workflows - tape measures, manual notes, hand-drafted plans - are slow and difficult to verify. SLAM LiDAR scanning accelerated capture, but the resulting point clouds still required significant manual processing before architects and designers could use them in CAD software.
AI-Generated Floor Plans From Scan Data
The software now automatically identifies structural elements within point clouds - walls, openings, columns, spatial boundaries - and generates floor plans and section drawings based on actual site geometry. These drawings export as DWG files with point cloud underlays, allowing professionals to open them directly in AutoCAD for refinement.
The practical effect: fewer site revisits and faster project delivery. Rather than drafting from field notes, teams work from a baseline that already reflects real conditions. For renovation projects where pricing, contractor briefing, and construction coordination depend on measurement accuracy, this reduces both production time and error risk.
3D Gaussian Splatting for Client Communication
The update introduces proprietary 3D Gaussian Splatting technology that generates spatial representations closer to how a person experiences a physical space. This improves communication between technical and non-technical team members - clients understand layouts more clearly, contractors better visualize conditions before mobilizing, and project owners can review progress against documented site conditions.
SHARE3DCAM's approach combines LiDAR geometry with visual image data. Most Gaussian Splatting methods rely primarily on images, which produce unstable results in low-texture environments common in construction: unpainted concrete, plain plaster, uniform finishes. By fusing both data sources, the system maintains structural accuracy in these settings.
Point Cloud Processing for Active Job Sites
Construction and renovation environments present consistent capture challenges: uneven lighting, reflective surfaces, active personnel, and complex geometry. The upgrade includes targeted improvements across each condition.
- Colorization: A new algorithm improves image-to-point-cloud color mapping in low-light environments including basements and underground parking structures.
- Filtering: An upgraded algorithm optimizes point cloud thickness to 5 mm in applicable scenarios, reducing noise while preserving geometric detail needed for measurement and documentation.
- Reflective surfaces: The system identifies and reduces false geometry on glass facades, polished floors, and metal surfaces, improving measurement reliability in spaces where these materials are common.
- Dynamic object removal: A neural network model extracts usable spatial data even when site personnel or equipment are present during scanning, eliminating delays from needing to fully clear active construction sites.
Hardware Lineup
SHARE PointClouds Studio V2.5.0 works natively with SHARE3DCAM's SLAM scanner lineup. The SHARE C1 offers compact professional capture suited to rapid deployment across multiple site types. The SHARE SLAM S20 targets renovation, architectural measurement, and complex AEC workflows. For larger-scale requirements - engineering surveys, industrial inspection, infrastructure projects - the SHARE SLAM S100 Series handles higher data volumes and longer-range capture.
Pricing and Availability
SHARE PointClouds Studio V2.5.0 is available now as free desktop software with no subscription fees, time limits, or licensing costs. The full feature set, including the AI Engine Algorithm Upgrade, is available at no charge.
