South Korea and Brazil signed a memorandum of cooperation on Monday that broadens educational exchange between the two countries, adding joint work in artificial intelligence and digital education to existing language and higher education programs.
The agreement was signed by the countries' education ministries during President Lee Jae Myung's visit to Brazil. The pact covers technical and vocational education, higher education, Portuguese-language instruction in Korea, Korean-language classes in Brazil, and AI and digital education. The inclusion of AI in the pact arrives at a time when professional development resources, such as AI for Education, are helping teachers and administrators adapt to technology-driven classrooms.
Expanding educational ties
Cooperation between the two nations gained momentum after Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's state visit to South Korea in February. Since then, demand for Korean-language education in Brazil has grown, the Education Ministry said. As of last year, 1,886 students at 309 Brazilian schools were learning Korean, mostly through online and after-school programs. Separately, 366 Brazilian international students studied in South Korea last year, making Brazil the 32nd-largest source of international students among 189 countries represented in Korea.
Education Minister Choi Kyo-jin described the deal in concrete terms: "I hope this cooperation will allow the two countries to share their experiences and knowledge and help our children step into a wider world."

The agreement signals government-level support for embedding AI and digital tools into national curricula across borders. For teachers, curriculum designers, and language program coordinators, it creates new opportunities for cross-cultural collaboration and exposes classrooms to different approaches to AI literacy.
