STG Acquires Carrier Logistics to Build AI-Driven Transportation Platform

Menlo Park-based private equity firm STG has acquired Carrier Logistics Inc., a transportation management software provider for less-than-truckload carriers. The deal aims to embed autonomous AI capabilities into the existing platform to automate dispatch, routing, and terminal operations.

Carrier Logistics has traditionally handled record-keeping and workflow coordination for motor carriers across the United States and Canada. STG plans to add AI agents that can make operational decisions while keeping humans in control of complex exceptions and critical choices.

What Changes for Carriers

The upgraded system will include autonomous dispatch and routing, predictive terminal optimization, and automated exception handling with human review. Carriers will transition from legacy systems to platforms that reduce manual work on routine tasks while preserving operator judgment where it matters most.

STG said it will increase research and development spending to accelerate feature rollout. Existing Carrier Logistics customers will continue using the platform while gaining access to new capabilities.

The Business Case

Ben Wiesen, president of Carrier Logistics, said the acquisition lets his team expand support for carriers while maintaining the platform's position as a market leader in transportation management.

Rushi Kulkarni, managing director at STG, framed the acquisition as addressing a gap in the LTL industry. "Data is plentiful, but actionable intelligence is scarce," he said. "We're enabling the development of a brain into the nervous system of LTL operations."

STG's strategy centers on building enterprise software with AI-first development plans. The firm sees the LTL sector as positioned for a shift toward automated, data-driven operations.
