Syndio acquires Embrace.ai to accelerate its pay decision platform

Syndio, the decision intelligence platform for pay, acquired agentic AI company Embrace.ai on June 23, 2026, bringing on a team with deep enterprise HCM and AI-native product experience. The acquisition aims to accelerate AI-driven pay governance for global enterprises, directly affecting how HR teams monitor equity, manage compensation cycles, and ensure compliance at scale.

The full Embrace.ai team joins Syndio, led by founders Derek Butts and Seth Halpern. Butts spent 13 years at Workday building product marketing, leading multiple products, and running corporate strategy and M&A. He becomes SVP of Product Strategy at Syndio. Halpern led global sales operations at Workday and WP Engine, built value-based sales teams at SAP and Siebel Systems, and will serve as a strategic advisor. Their combined experience spans enterprise HCM, large-scale software platforms, and AI-native product development.

"Pay decisions are among the most important decisions a company makes, and they require AI that understands the domain, data, and governance expectations of the enterprise," said Maria Colacurcio, CEO of Syndio. "The Embrace.ai team was built around exactly that principle. They bring a governance-first approach to enterprise AI and deep operating experience helping organizations configure, control, and deploy AI agents with appropriate guardrails. That expertise will help us move significantly faster as we build the next generation of pay intelligence."

Derek Butts, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Embrace.ai, said the combination will accelerate work on a platform where AI guides pay decisions with rigor. "Every pay decision carries consequences for the employee and the employer, so AI has to be accurate, understand deep context, and support, not replace, human judgment. Syndio understands that deeply, and I'm excited to help accelerate the work to build a platform where AI guides pay decisions with rigor and accountability."

Enterprise HCM expertise meets AI-native development

Butts and Halpern built Embrace.ai to deploy AI-driven automation across business workflows. Their governance-first approach to enterprise AI aligns with Syndio's existing work helping companies configure, control, and deploy AI agents with appropriate guardrails. The founders' operating experience inside Workday-where Butts helped build the product marketing function and Halpern ran global sales operations-brings direct knowledge of the systems where enterprise pay decisions already happen.

Accelerating decision intelligence for pay

Syndio's platform already helps nearly 400 global enterprises analyze, govern, and improve pay decisions at scale. The acquisition adds AI-native technical depth and strengthens governance and explainability for complex compensation decisions. It also expands the company's ability to support customers inside the HCM platforms they use daily. This follows Syndio's recent launch of the Decision Intelligence for Pay category and its Essentials and Decisions products, moving customers from compliance reporting to real-time pay governance.

More than half the Fortune 100-including Salesforce, American Airlines, Siemens, Ford, and Microsoft-trust Syndio to govern pay for over 10 million employees across 100 countries. The company's AI-powered platform helps organizations make compliant, consistent, and business-aligned compensation decisions from offer through every promotion and merit cycle.

Why this matters for HR professionals

HR teams managing compensation at scale now have a more direct line to AI-driven pay governance tools that embed domain expertise and enterprise guardrails. As agentic AI becomes part of compensation workflows, professionals need to understand how these systems support human judgment rather than replace it. Structured training, such as the AI Learning Path for HR Managers, can help build the skills to evaluate and deploy these technologies responsibly.
