Tata Elxsi launches AnaTel, an AI platform for regulated medical device software
Tata Elxsi and OpenAna have released AnaTel, an AI-driven software development platform built for medical device and software-as-a-medical-device (SaMD) companies. The platform automates tasks across the full development lifecycle-from requirements and architecture through testing, deployment, and regulatory documentation-while keeping human engineers in control of critical decisions.
The announcement came at DeviceTalks Boston 2026, where the company demonstrated its compliance-focused engineering tools for the medtech sector.
Why medtech companies need this now
Regulatory frameworks have tightened significantly. The FDA's 2025 draft guidance on AI-enabled device software and Europe's MDCG 2025-26 guidelines now require extensive lifecycle traceability, validation evidence, and documentation throughout development. Most organizations handle this through fragmented workflows and manual work, creating bottlenecks that stretch timelines by weeks.
AnaTel addresses this by embedding autonomous AI agents into the engineering process. Unlike conventional coding assistants that focus mainly on code generation, the platform generates code, test cases, traceability matrices, validation evidence, and regulatory artifacts as part of standard work.
What the platform does
The system includes a specialized Healthcare and Life Sciences agent trained on medtech engineering and compliance requirements. It supports eSTAR-aligned submission preparation, audit-trail management, and end-to-end traceability.
Tata Elxsi expects AnaTel to cut software development and change assessment cycles from weeks to 72 hours, with productivity gains up to 60 percent. All critical reviews and approvals remain with human engineers and regulatory specialists.
The platform was developed under Tata Elxsi's STEP.UP co-innovation initiative, which focuses on deep-tech partnerships and next-generation enterprise technologies.
For development teams
If you work on AI coding or generative code projects, AnaTel represents a shift in how regulated environments approach automation. The platform's focus on traceability and compliance documentation alongside code generation reflects where medtech development is heading.
