Taxwire raises $25M to scale its AI sales tax automation platform

Taxwire, a sales tax automation platform, raised $25 million in Seed and Series A funding to scale its fully managed service that now handles compliance for businesses across the US and more than 100 countries. The funding round, announced June 30, 2026, was led by Headline Ventures, XYZ VC, Vinyl, Recall Capital, and Nomo Ventures, and arrives as companies grapple with a fragmented system of 22,000 city, county, and local tax jurisdictions in the US alone.

The compliance burden that derails sales teams

For fast-growing companies, sales tax compliance is not a one-and-done task. Hyper-local rules mean a single transaction can carry overlapping tax obligations with different product classifications and filing deadlines. Mistakes trigger audits and penalties at a time when governments are aggressively closing revenue gaps. Finance teams often spend hours untangling errors, and when billing mishaps occur, sales reps find themselves pulled into cleanup calls instead of closing deals.

"Between the 22,000 different jurisdictions and constantly shifting rules, sales tax is a massive liability that finance teams simply don't want to deal with," said Andrew Rea, Founder and CEO of Taxwire. "Our mission is to deliver a platform so accurate, transparent, and fully automated that our customers can plug it in and never have to think about sales tax again."

How Taxwire's platform works

Taxwire operates as an end-to-end managed service that replaces manual tracking with a transparent, set-and-forget framework. High-speed APIs and custom geocoding pinpoint precise sales tax, VAT, and GST rates across tens of thousands of global jurisdictions. AI-powered product labeling automatically codes items to the correct tax rules, handles bundles and edge cases, and reconciles data across billing, e-commerce, and accounting systems like QuickBooks, Xero, and NetSuite.

Finance teams approve every process through a "ready to file" dashboard that cross-checks returns for missing data or threshold errors before submission. A Slack-native expert support channel connects users directly to seasoned tax specialists and AI agents for immediate, jurisdiction-level explanations. The approach blends frontier AI with human oversight, a model that Taylor Brandt, Partner at Headline, said fills gaps left by earlier tools. "As a former CPA and operator who used tools like Avalara and Taxjar, I saw the gaps in current technology and the constant need for human intervention to get sales tax right," Brandt explained.

Operational foundation for growing revenue

Jinal Sanghavi, VP of Finance at Levanta, highlighted the downstream impact. "Switching to Taxwire wasn't just about recovering the $13K+ Avalara had over-collected, it was about establishing the operational foundation we need to support our growth," Sanghavi said. "With Taxwire, every process is customer-approved. Nothing moves without our green light. This is a non-negotiable for a growing SaaS company."

Operations that run without manual intervention free sales leaders to focus on scaling revenue rather than firefighting billing errors. For those overseeing teams, understanding how AI can automate compliance and other back-office tasks is becoming a practical necessity, and an AI Learning Path for Sales Managers can help bridge that knowledge gap. Taxwire's founding team includes industry veterans who previously built tax infrastructure at Stripe, TaxJar, Fonoa, EY, and Avalara, along with former state tax auditors.

Why this matters for sales professionals

Every hour a rep spends untangling a tax-related billing dispute is an hour not spent selling. When the financial backend is fully automated, sales teams can expand into new regions without worrying about local tax exposures that might delay contracts or sour customer trust. Taxwire's model - combining AI with human review - reduces the risk of costly errors that can eat into commission budgets or trigger audit holdbacks. For sales leaders, platforms like this mean the compliance checkbox stays green without constant internal oversight, letting the team focus on hitting quotas and entering new markets.
