Japanese autonomous driving software firm TIER IV and automotive supplier Astemo have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop a next-generation software development platform for autonomous driving systems. The platform, built around TIER IV's Co-MLOps data-sharing technology, aims to enable continuous development of production-quality end-to-end autonomous driving AI models, with commercial deployment targeted around 2030.
The partnership and platform
Under the MoU, Astemo will license TIER IV's Co-MLOps architecture and related technologies. The two companies will then build a platform that integrates the collection, processing, training, evaluation and continuous improvement of AI models. Astemo plans to use this platform to deploy Level 4+ end-to-end AI models in passenger vehicles in the early 2030s.
TIER IV leads development of the open-source autonomous driving software Autoware. The companies have previously worked together through the Autoware Foundation and SOAFEE on Open AD Kit, a cloud-native framework for autonomous driving development. This agreement deepens that collaboration and expands TIER IV's data-sharing platform for autonomous driving AI development.
End-to-end AI for autonomous driving
End-to-end autonomous driving AI models integrate perception, planning and control into a single learning process. The technology is emerging as a foundation for next-generation advanced driver-assistance systems and autonomous driving systems. Bringing these models to production requires compliance with automotive safety and manufacturing standards, as well as an AI development infrastructure that can continuously collect, process, train and evaluate large-scale driving data.
