Together AI Joins U.S. Department of Energy's Genesis Mission
Together AI announced it has joined the Genesis Mission, the U.S. Department of Energy's initiative to use artificial intelligence to double the productivity of American science and engineering within a decade.
The Genesis Mission connects the DOE's 17 National Laboratories, academic institutions, and private companies to build an integrated AI discovery platform. The platform links the country's most powerful supercomputers, experimental facilities, and scientific datasets to accelerate research in energy, national security, and basic science.
What Together AI Brings
Together AI operates one of the world's fastest AI inference platforms designed for the large-scale workloads that frontier research demands. The company maintains an open-model library spanning the latest leading open-weight models, giving researchers the ability to inspect, customize, and deploy models on their own terms.
The company has released widely adopted open-source AI techniques including FlashAttention and Mixture of Agents. Researchers at Together AI hold positions at Stanford University, including James Zou, who leads the AI for Science Lab, and Percy Liang, co-founder and director of the Center for Research on Foundation Models.
Why Open Source Matters Here
Vipul Ved Prakash, CEO of Together AI, said the Genesis Mission aligns with open-source AI's core purpose. "Science moves fastest when researchers can actually see inside the models they're working with, adapt them to their domain, and run them at scale," Prakash said.
Together AI's involvement promotes open-source use for the Genesis platform and seeks to prevent the national research community from becoming locked into proprietary systems as it builds the next generation of AI-powered science.
