UAE to Train 80,000 Federal Employees in Agentic AI
The UAE government and Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) have formalized a partnership to train the federal workforce as agentic AI experts. The initiative targets all 80,000 federal employees across occupational categories.
The agreement, signed by senior officials including Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi and MBZUAI Board Chairman Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, pairs executive education programs with capability-building initiatives across federal ministries and government entities.
What HR Leaders Need to Know
This partnership addresses a core workforce challenge: building institutional readiness for AI deployment at scale. The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) will oversee implementation alongside MBZUAI.
Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and the Future and FAHR Chairwoman, framed the effort as equipping civil servants with practical skills to design and deliver next-generation public services.
The training program sits within a broader national push: the UAE plans to power 50% of federal government operations with agentic AI within two years. This target reflects the country's strategy to transition from an oil-dependent economy to a knowledge-based digital hub by 2030.
The Scope of the Initiative
Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Secretary General of the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council, said the partnership centers on responsible and inclusive AI deployment. "A government powered by AI is built on far more than the technologies it holds. Its success rests on human competence, trained minds, sound judgement, and the values of the people who guide it," he said.
The training spans all job levels and functions, meaning HR teams will need to coordinate placement, scheduling, and skill validation across diverse roles.
For HR professionals managing large-scale workforce development, this case study shows how to structure AI for Human Resources initiatives at the enterprise level. Those leading this work may find the AI Learning Path for CHROs relevant to understanding strategic implementation.
